It is also known for its unique geographical location and stunning natural scenery consisting of the southern Rocky Mountains, the Roaring Fork River, the Roaring Fork Valley and the area is surrounded by vast wilderness on all sides. These geographical features allow for an abundance of outdoor activities in every season. Some of these activities include hiking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and nature viewing. In winter, the world-class downhill skiing at the various resorts is what draws people to the area but snowboarding, cross-country skiing, tubing and snowshoeing are also popular activities.
