To get a feel for the real Colombia, visit the old city and surrounding areas. To the west (by boat) you will find an island chain that has incredible aqua marine water, perfect for snorkeling or just boating. Many tour operators run to the islands or you can do as I do and rent a boat and leisurely cruise the islands and visit a variety of beaches (Playa Grande, Rosario Islands).
