The most famous one is Chitzen Itza and the other is known as the “Puuc Route” (Puuc means “small hills” or “mounds” in Mayan), the tour includes a visit to the Loltun Caves (loltun means “stone flower”) and 3 ancient mayan cities. In the Loltun caves you can see interesting Mayan murals. Labna, which means “old house”, is located 18 miles away, and was inhabited from 750 to 1000 A.D. by some 1,500 to 2,500 people. Today there are four restored structures and it is surrounded by many mounds. Of the structures at Labna, we should mention the Palace, which has some 70 “chultunes” (water cisterns), as well as the Labna Arch. Ten miles further on, we come to X-Lapak, which means “old walls”. It has 14 mounds and three pyramids in the process of reconstruction.The last eight miles takes us to Sayil, which means “the place of the ants”. Sayil dates from the years 800-1000 A.D. The two buildings that stand out at this site are the Palace of Three Floors and the Observatory.
