Saskatchewan
While many think of Saskatchewan as a primarily prairie landscape in the central area of Canada, the region has many hills and lakes as well. In fact, there are 100,000 lakes within its borders,
including Little Manitou Lake, a lake with water said to be denser than the Dead Sea.
Holidayers seeking outdoor recreation will find a plethora of opportunities with a Saskatchewan homestay. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and boating can all be enjoyed from one of the many lake-front cottage rentals available in the area.
The Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park in the extreme southwest corner of the region is a great place to hike or horseback ride. Saskatchewan cabin rentals can be found within close proximity to historical Fort Walsh, which was established in the 1800s in an attempt to curb illegal whiskey trading with the United States. Today, visitors can tour the fort and trading post.
Hockey is a local passion in Saskatchewan, and matches can be both extremely entertaining and intense for both spectators and players. Cheer on one of the local teams of Regina, Moose Jaw or Saskatoon. Visit the training facility of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police while in Saskatchewan. The region is the birthplace of the world-famous Mounties, an elite group of national police known as much for their red uniforms as for their use of horses for patrolling purposes.
