The Greenwood House of Connellsvilleon the great Alleghency pessageSlideShowThe romantic room has a double bed,the blue room has a double bed and a set of bunk beds and the pink room has two double beds.We can accommodate eight adults and two children. Our first floor will soon be open.We have a foyer,a drawing room and a dining room.It is completely furnished and decorated in turn-of-the-century decor.WE DO NOT HAVE PRIVATE BATHS We have a large Victorian bath with a claw-foot tub/shower on the 2nd floor and a 50's style'gas station' bath on the first floor. Both are uniquely equipped to meet the needs of our guests. The fourth room on the second floor is sitting room with 24hr snacks and beverages. Our home is and always will be smoke free. We're just two blocks from the Great Allegheny Passage, locally known as the Yough River Trail in the beautiful Laurel Highlands. The Rails to Trails project, when completed; will make it possible to travel the entire route between Pittsburgh,Pa and Washington,DC on a bicycle. Connellsville is the midway point for riders on the GAP going the distance from Washington DC to Pittsburgh Pa with many picturesque and historical locations in between. We are only 17 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Fallingwater' and 18 miles from Ohiopyle. We are close enough to Laurel Caverns and the internationally famous Nemacolin Woodlands that you can relax in our homey Victorian style but not pay celebrity prices.Connellsville was the 'coke' capital of the world during the 1800's and the birth of the steel industry.Steel magnate,James Cochran is believed to have sold our section of town to his business associate,Miles Greenwood, hence the name Greenwood,Pa. A Methodist Church, several businesses and an apartment complex still bear the name.We chose 'Greenwood' for our home because of the history associated, as well as the fact that this part of our city has many beautiful trees lining the streets..Our town is alive with history, arts, festivals and beautiful scenery, thanks to the Youghiogheny River and our close proximity to the mountains. If you ride the trail from Cumberland MD. you will see how the scenery opens to the flats where it then proceeds to Pittsburgh. We are level enough for businesses but mountainous on all sides;very beautiful in early October when the fall leaves changes to fiery red, bright gold, yellow and amber.I've included a list of local events that highlight the season changes on a later page.Bicycles are everywhere in Connellsville and we are no except! My husband created the 'highwheel' bike in our front garden;it is stationary but great for pictures! I have included bicycles in my decorating in all rooms and will be offering a few amenities specifically for the cyclists. We have a bicycle rack,'bike'.shower and the availability of 'Bikes Unlimited' only a few blocks away. Please call for reservations! 724-570-0566 and leave your message. We are and always will be smoke-free. History of the Greenwood House Built in 1905 by J.Harold Sweeny, this lovely American 4-Square design house was a cozy shelter for two families and a total of twelve children. The original owners,Edward and Margaret Sweeney were part of Connellsville society and hosted gatherings in the spacious foyer, living room and dining room.Mrs Sweeny was an avid decorator and we have tried to return to the original appearance of the home, using period-type wallpaper, colors and furnishings. The woodwork has been preserved and remains beautiful with an ornate fireplace in the living room, lovely cornices and moulding throughout. The name Greenwood originated from it's location. At one time, this section of town was owned by Miles Greenwood, a friend of coal and coke baron, James Cochran. We have several letters addressed to Mr and Mrs.Sweeney of 'Greenwood,Pa'.

This is a beautiful hand-built log cabin. It is built of large cottonwood logs originating from the banks of the Big Hole river 20 miles from Silver Star. The logs are flattened on two sides with a chainsaw, and dove-tail notches are used on the corners to fit the logs in place. This cabin was hand built by the owner, Chip Ashcraft, who is a custom log cabin builder. This cabin features a common sleeping area on the second floor with 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, and a single bed.The cabin is located 400 feet off the county road nestled in a patch of trees, providing a very peaceful and private setting. The closest neighbors are deer and the occasional moose. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of Silver Star fishing access site on the Jefferson river, just downstream from the famous Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby Rivers. It is about an hour's drive to the Madison river. We have private fishing (Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, etc.) in a spring creek on the ranch.Clair and Doris Everson from Hayden Lake, Idaho, commented: We came on Roots expedition with friends - a success! And we fell in love with the little cabin in the Montana Woods. Thank you for a wonderful quiet time . Staying at our cabin allows you to walk to some of the greatest trout fishing in Montana on the Jefferson River. From rainbows to brown trout, the river has several easy access points that are great for wade fishing.Montana native Chip Ashcraft of Silver Star has over twenty three years experience as a log home and cabin builder. He has built private residences from North Carolina to Montana using the traditional scribe fitted method in his building process. Each handcrafted log cabin is created from lodge pole pine or Douglas fir which is then individually scribed, notched and then fitted into position.Montana native Chip Ashcraft, of Silver Star, has been building log homes and cabins since 1986.
